Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizing NAD and the other NADP as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported:
- Three NAD-dependent forms localized to the mitochondrial matrix
- Two NADP-dependent forms (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic)
Each NADP-dependent isozyme is a homodimer. The IDH2 protein is the NADP-dependent mitochondrial enzyme involved in intermediary metabolism and energy production, and may interact with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
