Target Information

Human growth hormone (hGH) belongs to the somatotropin/prolactin family, essential for growth control.
The GH1 gene and four related genes are located on chromosome 17, sharing high sequence identity.
Alternative splicing produces five isoforms (~19–24 kDa).
HGH is secreted by pituitary somatotroph cells and binds cytokine receptor subfamily membrane receptors.
Its main role is to stimulate liver and other tissues to secrete IGF-1, promoting muscle differentiation, proliferation, amino acid uptake, and protein synthesis.
Mutations or deletions in this gene cause growth hormone deficiency and short stature.
