Target Information
The human ASH2L gene encodes a 628 amino acid protein (ASH2L1, isoform 1) containing a nuclear localization signal and a PHD finger motif, suggesting a role as a transcription regulator. Its predicted molecular weight is 68.7 kDa, with isoforms at 60 kDa and 56.5 kDa due to alternative splicing.
Human ASH2L shares 60% homology with Drosophila ash2, which regulates gene expression during early development, and 90% homology with mouse ASH2L. Expression is predominant in adult heart, testis, and fetal lung and liver, with low levels in adult lung, liver, kidney, prostate, and peripheral leukocytes. It is also expressed in leukemia cell lines (K562, Hel, Dami) associated with erythroid and megakaryocytic potential. Differentiation inducers such as phorbol ester and hemin alter expression patterns, suggesting ASH2L’s role in hematopoiesis and leukemia. ASH2L may interact with beta-tubulin and beta-catenin.
