Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin, linking cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless and tyrosine kinases, influencing morphogenesis and cell proliferation.
Beta-catenin is expressed in hair follicle cells and epithelial tissues. Pathological roles include pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, it coactivates Lef/Tcf transcription factors regulating cyclin D and c-myc expression, contributing to tumorigenesis.
