Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and signaling. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to link cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also participates in signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless and regulates morphogenesis. It is expressed in various epithelial and hair follicle cell types. Dysregulation of beta-catenin is associated with pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting transcription of proliferation-related genes such as cyclin D and c-myc.
