MMP3 (stromelysin-1)은 peptidase M10A subfamily에 속하며, pro-protein 형태로 분비되어 세포외 단백질분해효소에 의해 활성화됩니다. Zinc 및 calcium 이온에 결합할 수 있으며 metallo-endopeptidase 활성을 가집니다. 활성 효소는 collagen, gelatin, fibronectin, laminin을 분해하며, 상처 회복 및 조직 재형성 과정에 관여합니다. 유전자 변이는 관상동맥 질환과 관련될 수 있습니다.
