Target Information
TMED2 is a protein coding gene involved in vesicular protein trafficking. It mainly functions in the early secretory pathway and post-Golgi membranes. TMED2 acts as a cargo receptor for secretory molecules and participates in vesicle coat formation.
It plays a role in COPII-mediated anterograde transport of GPI-anchored proteins, interacting with TMED10, SEC24C, and SEC24D. In COPI-mediated retrograde transport, it regulates ARFGAP1 activity to ensure proper cargo selection.
TMED2 is also involved in trafficking of GPCRs (F2RL1, OPRM1, P2RY4) and facilitates CASR maturation and plasma membrane targeting. Additionally, it contributes to Golgi apparatus maintenance and biosynthesis of secreted cargo.
