Target Information

TMED2 is a protein coding gene involved in vesicular protein trafficking. It functions mainly in the early secretory pathway and post-Golgi membranes. TMED2 acts as a cargo receptor for incorporation of secretory cargo molecules into transport vesicles and participates in vesicle coat formation.
In COPII vesicle-mediated anterograde transport, TMED2 is involved in the transport of GPI-anchored proteins, acting together with TMED10, and interacts with SEC24C and SEC24D of the COPII vesicle coat.
In COPI vesicle-mediated retrograde transport, it inhibits the GTPase-activating activity of ARFGAP1 towards ARF1, allowing proper cargo selection. TMED2 also regulates GPCR trafficking, including F2RL1, OPRM1, and P2RY4, and facilitates CASR maturation and stabilization.
It contributes to Golgi apparatus organization and may play a role in biosynthesis and processing of secreted cargo.
