Target Information

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) binds to the EGF Receptor (EGFR), a 170 kDa protein kinase, initiating multiple signaling pathways involved in cell growth and survival. EGFR forms homo- or heterodimers with other family members, each triggering distinct downstream cascades such as RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK, PI3K-AKT, PLCγ-PKC, and STAT. EGF is widely expressed in the kidney, cerebrum, prostate, and salivary glands, functioning as a potent mitogenic factor. Dysregulation of EGF signaling is associated with various cancers and genetic disorders such as hypomagnesemia type 4.
