This antibody is expected to cross-react with rat, chimpanzee, canine, macaque monkey, zebrafish, and Xenopus laevis based on sequence homology.
Target Information
GRP78 is a 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein belonging to the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) family. It resides in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and transiently associates with newly synthesized secretory and membrane proteins. GRP78 also interacts with mutant and misfolded proteins, marking them for degradation.
The conserved sequence Lys-Asp-Glu-Leu (KDEL) at the C-terminus of GRP78 and other ER proteins (e.g., GRP94, PDI) ensures ER retention via the KDEL receptor. GRP78 plays a key role in protein folding, degradation of misfolded proteins, and maintenance of cellular homeostasis, preventing apoptosis.
GRP78 levels are reliable biomarkers of hypoglycemia and have neuroprotective functions under stress conditions. Reduced GRP78 expression is observed in Alzheimer’s disease and is associated with PS1 gene mutations. Induction of GRP78 is also linked to drug resistance in tumor cells.
