Target Information
A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA) and localize the holoenzyme within the cell.
This gene encodes a member of the AKAP family. Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms containing C-terminal dbl oncogene homology (DH) and pleckstrin homology (PH) domains.
The DH domain mediates guanine nucleotide exchange activation for Rho/Rac GTPases, converting them to their active form. The PH domain serves multiple functions.
These isoforms act as scaffolding proteins coordinating Rho signaling, anchoring PKA, and enhancing ligand-dependent activity of estrogen receptors α and β.
