Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that form complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While all hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The encoded protein has four quasi-RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains that bind RNAs. It binds to intronic polypyrimidine tracts required for pre-mRNA splicing and functions via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. It may also promote U2 snRNP binding to pre-mRNAs.
This protein is localized in the nucleoplasm and perinucleolar structures. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
