Product Specific Information
0.5 µg/mL of MA5-45217 was sufficient for detection of 50 ng purified alpha B crystallin by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects approximately 20 kDa (predicted molecular weight ~21 kDa).
Does not cross-react with alpha A-crystallin, beta L-crystallin, beta H-crystallin, gamma-crystallin, HSP25, HSP27, or HSP47 proteins.
Target Information
Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%). Crystallins are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue. In the lens, their structural function is to maintain the proper refractive index.
The mammalian lens contains three major classes of crystallins: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin is composed of alpha-A and alpha-B gene products and comprises about 40% of total lens protein.
It functions as a chaperone-like protein, preventing aggregation that may lead to cataract formation.
Phosphorylation of alpha-crystallin may occur in response to cellular stress and play a role in protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
