Target Information
CCR8 encodes a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, predicted to be a seven-transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptors play crucial roles in the migration of various cell types to inflammatory sites. CCR8 is preferentially expressed in the thymus, and its known ligands include I-309, thymus activation-regulated cytokine (TARC), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP1β).
Studies suggest CCR8 is involved in regulating monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis, contributing to the proper positioning of activated T cells within antigenic challenge sites and lymphoid tissues. CCR8 expression has been observed in spleen, thymus, NK cells, monocytes, T cells, and at lower levels in peripheral blood leukocytes.
