Target Information
PGC1 alpha is a transcriptional coactivator that regulates genes involved in energy metabolism. It interacts with PPARγ, enabling interactions with multiple transcription factors. PGC-1 alpha can regulate the activities of cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) and nuclear respiratory factors (NRFs). It provides a direct link between external physiological stimuli and mitochondrial biogenesis, playing a major role in muscle fiber type determination. It may also be involved in controlling blood pressure, regulating cellular cholesterol homeostasis, and the development of obesity.
