Target Information
The Notch gene family encodes transmembrane proteins with multiple cysteine-rich EGF-like repeats in the extracellular region. In mammals, four Notch genes (Notch1, Notch2, Notch3, Notch4) are known to play roles in the differentiation of the nervous system and other tissues. EGF-like proteins such as Delta and Serrate act as ligands for Notch1. Mature Notch proteins are heterodimeric receptors consisting of an extracellular subunit (NEC) and a transmembrane subunit (Ntm) containing the intracellular region.
