Target Information
Caspases are cysteine proteases expressed as inactive precursors that mediate apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates. They cleave after aspartic acid residues and are classified as initiator and effector caspases. Initiator caspases (e.g., Caspase-8 and Caspase-9) are activated by receptor clustering, while effector caspases (e.g., Caspase-3 and Caspase-7) are activated downstream, leading to cellular collapse.
