GTP cyclohydrolase 1 (GCH1) 유전자는 GTP cyclohydrolase 패밀리의 구성원으로, 테트라하이드로비옵테린(BH4) 생합성의 첫 번째이자 속도 제한 효소입니다. 이 효소는 GTP를 7,8-dihydroneopterin triphosphate로 전환시키며, BH4는 방향족 아미노산 하이드록실레이스 및 nitric oxide synthase의 필수 보조인자로 작용합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 악성 고페닐알라닌혈증 및 도파 반응성 근긴장증과 관련이 있습니다. 여러 가지 스플라이스 변형이 보고되었으나, 모두 기능적 효소를 생성하지는 않습니다.
