Target Information
CYP2R1 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These proteins are monooxygenases that catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. This enzyme functions as a microsomal vitamin D hydroxylase, converting vitamin D into the active ligand for the vitamin D receptor. Mutations in the CYP2R1 gene are associated with selective 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency.
