RNF166 (RING finger protein 166)는 RING-type zinc finger와 UIM(ubiquitin-interacting motif) 반복 서열을 포함하는 237개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질입니다. 두 개의 교차 절편 형태로 존재하며, 인간 염색체 16q24.3에 위치한 RNF166 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다. 염색체 16은 900개 이상의 유전자를 포함하고 전체 인간 유전체의 약 3%를 차지합니다. GAN 유전자의 돌연변이는 giant axonal neuropathy를 유발할 수 있으며, Rubinstein-Taybi 증후군 및 Crohn’s disease와도 관련이 있습니다.
