FGFR2는 수용체 티로신 키나아제 계열인 FGFR 패밀리의 구성원으로, 혈관신생, 세포분열, 골형성, 근형성, 암발생, 세포분화, 손상 후 조직 복구 등 다양한 세포 기능을 조절합니다. FGFR 패밀리는 암, 류머티즘성 관절염, 당뇨성 망막병증 등 여러 질환과 관련이 있으며, 각 구성원은 리간드 친화성과 조직 분포에서 차이를 보입니다.
FGFR2 유전자 변이는 Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Craniosynostosis, Apert, Jackson-Weiss, Beare-Stevenson cutis gyrata, Saethre-Chotzen 등 여러 증후군 및 두개골융합증과 연관되어 있습니다. 또한 다양한 스플라이싱 변형으로 여러 이소폼을 생성합니다.
