Target Information
RNF168 is a chromatin-associated RING finger protein functioning as a ubiquitin ligase in vitro and in vivo. It ubiquitinates histones H2A and H2AX, forming K63 polyubiquitin chains, and is recruited to DNA double-strand break sites co-localizing with γH2AX and 53BP1 in an RNF8-dependent manner. This recruitment facilitates retention of 53BP1 and BRCA1, contributing to genome maintenance. At least three isoforms of RNF168 are known.
