Product Specific Information
- In direct ELISAs and Western blots, no cross-reactivity with recombinant human (rh) Cystatins A, B, D, E/M, S, SA, SN, rhFetuins A, B, or rhHPRG (Histidine-Proline-Rich Glycoprotein) is observed.
- Reconstitute at 0.5 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Target Information
Cystatin C, a member of the type 2 cystatin superfamily, is a potent inhibitor of cysteine proteinases, both endogenous (lysosomal cathepsins) and pathogenic.
Cystatin C is a 13 kDa secreted protein found in high concentrations in biological fluids and is thought to be expressed by all human nucleated cells.
Changes in Cystatin C levels have been documented in cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, amyloid angiopathy, and myocardial infarction.
Due to its low molecular weight, Cystatin C is also used as a marker of renal failure.
