Target Information
The RANBP2-like and GRIP domain containing 5 protein (RGPD5) shares high similarity with RANBP2, a large RAN-binding protein localized at the cytoplasmic side of the nuclear pore complex. The RGPD5 gene likely arose from a duplication of RANBP2 and is located nearby on chromosome 2q11–q12.
RGPD5 has been identified as an HIV dependency factor (HDF), indicating potential as a drug target in HIV treatment. Two isoforms are known: the shorter isoform is mainly expressed in testis, while the longer isoform shows low expression in somatic tissues.
