Target Information
TEF (thyrotrophic embryonic factor), also known as KIAA1655, is a 303 amino acid nuclear transcription factor belonging to the bZIP (basic region/leucine zipper) family and PAR (proline and acidic amino acid-rich) subfamily.
TEF binds DNA as a homodimer or heterodimer and transactivates the TSH beta promoter. It is broadly expressed in adults but localized to the developing embryonic anterior pituitary gland. TEF exhibits circadian rhythmic accumulation and can inhibit cell growth by downregulating cytokine receptor beta chain expression.
Its functional domains are highly homologous to other PAR-bZIP family members, such as albumin D box-binding protein (DABP), human hepatic leukemia factor (HLF), and chicken vitellogenin gene-binding protein (VBP).
