Target Information
Lymphotoxin beta (LTB) is a type II membrane protein of the TNF family. It anchors lymphotoxin-alpha to the cell surface through heterotrimer formation. The predominant form on the lymphocyte surface is the lymphotoxin-alpha1/beta2 complex, which is the primary ligand for the lymphotoxin-beta receptor. The minor complex is lymphotoxin-alpha2/beta1. LTB functions as an inducer of the inflammatory response and is involved in the normal development of lymphoid tissue. The lymphotoxin-beta isoform b cannot complex with lymphotoxin-alpha, suggesting an independent function. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
