Target Information

CD137 ligand (CD137L) is a type II membrane protein and member of the TNF superfamily. It acts as a co-stimulatory molecule expressed on antigen-presenting cells (DCs, monocytes/macrophages, B cells) and is upregulated upon activation. Its receptor, CD137/4-1BB, is found on various cells including inflamed endothelial cells, enhancing monocyte extravasation. Engagement between CD137 and CD137L promotes T cell proliferation, IL-2 secretion, survival, and cytotoxic activity. CD137L is expressed on most B-cell lymphomas (mantle, follicular, diffuse large B-cell) but absent in Hodgkin and T-cell lymphomas. It is also detected in carcinoma cell lines and implicated in T cell–tumor cell interactions.
