C9orf41은 N-methyltransferase로서, 카르노신(beta-alanyl-L-histidine)으로부터 안세린(beta-alanyl-N(Pi)-methyl-L-histidine)을 형성하는 반응을 매개합니다.
이 효소는 Gly-Gly-His, Gly-His, homocarnosine(GABA-His) 등 L-histidine 함유 di- 및 tripeptides도 메틸화합니다.
안세린은 척추동물 골격근의 주요 구성 성분 중 하나입니다.
