C9orf41은 N-methyltransferase로서 carnosine으로부터 anserine(beta-alanyl-N(Pi)-methyl-L-histidine)의 형성을 매개합니다.
Anserine은 vertebrate skeletal muscle의 주요 구성 성분이며, Gly-Gly-His, Gly-His, homocarnosine(GABA-His) 등의 L-histidine 함유 di-/tripeptides도 메틸화합니다.
