Connexin 32 유전자는 갭 접합 단백질(gap junction protein) 계열에 속하며, 세포 간 이온 및 소분자 전달을 담당하는 갭 접합 채널을 형성합니다. 갭 접합 단백질은 α형과 β형으로 구분되며, 이 유전자의 변이는 X-연관 Charcot-Marie-Tooth병(유전성 말초신경병)을 유발합니다. 동일 단백질을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 전사체가 보고되었습니다.
