Product Specific Information

The TRFK5 antibody reacts with mouse and human interleukin-5 (IL-5) and is a neutralizing antibody. Mouse IL-5 is a disulfide-linked homodimer containing two 113 amino acid peptides, appearing as 32–34 kDa bands in SDS-PAGE. IL-5 is produced by T cells and known as eosinophil-differentiating factor (EDF), B cell growth factor II (BCGFII), and T cell-replacing factor (TRF). It induces eosinophil differentiation and promotes their survival and activation. In mice, IL-5 stimulates B cell proliferation and antibody production.

Applications Reported:
This antibody is suitable for intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00) and protocol. Refer to BestProtocols®: Protocol A for intracellular proteins.
Recommended usage ≤ 0.25 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test. Antibody should be titrated for optimal performance.

Target Information

IL-5 is a cytokine acting as a growth and differentiation factor for B cells and eosinophils. It regulates eosinopoiesis, maturation, and activation of eosinophils. Elevated IL-5 levels are associated with asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes. The IL-5 receptor is a heterodimer whose beta subunit is shared with IL3 and CSF2/GM-CSF receptors. IL-5, IL4, IL13, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q31, regulated by long-range elements.
