Target Information
The T Complex Polypeptide 1 (TCP-1) is an approximately 60 kDa protein constitutively expressed in most eukaryotic cells and upregulated during spermatogenesis. It functions as a subunit of a cytosolic hetero-oligomeric chaperone complex involved in folding actin and tubulin.
Chaperonins recognize and stabilize polypeptide intermediates during folding, assembly, and disassembly, sharing characteristics with Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70), such as high abundance, stress induction, and ATPase activity.
The chaperonin family includes mitochondrial HSP60, E. coli GroEL, plastid Rubisco-subunit binding protein, and archaeal TF55. TCP-1 shows about 40% identity with TF55 but minimal similarity to HSP60 and GroEL.
