Target Information
TCP-1 theta (CCT8) is the theta subunit of the CCT (chaperonin containing TCP1 complex) molecule, abundant in the eukaryotic cytosol. It is involved in the transport and assembly of newly synthesized proteins. Molecular chaperones assist in protein folding upon ATP hydrolysis, and TCP-1 theta may play a role in the assembly of the BBSome, a complex involved in ciliogenesis and vesicle transport to cilia. Additionally, TCP-1 theta is involved in the folding of actin and tubulin. The intact CCT complex consists of eight polypeptides arranged in a double ring structure and is essential for folding of the VHL tumor suppressor protein.
