Background
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, which mediates the transport of various molecules across cellular membranes. ABC genes are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White). This full transporter is part of the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
