Background
This gene product is a protein tyrosine kinase involved in a specific subset of cytokine receptor signaling pathways. It is constitutively associated with the prolactin receptor and required for responses to gamma interferon. Mice lacking active JAK2 protein exhibit embryonic lethality due to absence of definitive erythropoiesis.
