Background
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). hnRNPs are nucleic acid-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. Some hnRNPs shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP D0 protein contains two quasi-RRM domains that bind RNA and is involved in mRNA stability regulation. Alternative splicing results in four transcript variants.
