YPEL3 (yippee-like 3)는 다섯 개의 yippee-like 단백질로 구성된 단백질군에 속하며, 모두 중심체 또는 유사분열 방추체에 위치하고 성체 및 태아 조직에서 널리 발현됩니다.
이러한 위치 특성과 종 간 높은 서열 상동성은 YPEL 단백질이 세포 분열에 관여하는 보존된 기능을 가질 가능성을 시사합니다.
YPEL3는 p53에 의해 조절되는 유전자이며, DNA 손상에 의해 발현이 유도되어 세포 노화를 유도합니다.
대장암 및 유방암에서 발현이 감소되어 종양 억제 인자로 작용하는 것으로 보입니다.
