E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)은 칼슘 의존성 세포-세포 접착 단백질로, cadherin 슈퍼패밀리에 속하는 고전적 cadherin입니다. 이 단백질은 5개의 세포외 cadherin 반복, 막관통 영역, 그리고 고도로 보존된 세포질 꼬리를 포함하는 당단백질입니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암, 난소암 등과 관련이 있으며, E-Cadherin 기능의 상실은 암의 증식, 침습, 전이 증가와 연관됩니다.
E-Cadherin은 조직 구조 유지 및 세포 성장 조절에 핵심적인 역할을 하며, 인간에서는 CDH1 유전자(16번 염색체)에 의해 암호화됩니다.
E-Cadherin 발현의 감소 또는 소실은 암종의 침습 및 전이 가능성과 양의 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
