Target Information
Left-right determination factor 1 and 2 (Lefty1/2) belong to the TGF-beta superfamily of proteins and are responsible for determination of left-right positioning of visceral organs during embryogenesis.
Lefty1 acts as a regulator of Lefty2 and NODAL; absence of Lefty1 results in bilateral expression of nodal, lefty2, and Pitx2 (a homeobox gene normally expressed on the left side).
Lefty2 may play a role in endometrial bleeding.
