Target Information

Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and facilitate mitochondrial protein synthesis.
Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with a higher protein-to-rRNA ratio (~75%) than prokaryotic ribosomes.
Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA.
MRPS15 encodes a 28S subunit protein belonging to the ribosomal protein S15P family.
The human MRPS15 protein is over twice the size of its E. coli counterpart, maintaining conserved 12S rRNA binding sites.
Between human and mouse, MRPS15 shows low conservation among small subunit ribosomal proteins.
Pseudogenes of MRPS15 are found on chromosomes 15q and 19q.
