Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure.
It consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits: two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome, a modified form, processes class I MHC peptides.
The PSMB9 gene encodes a beta subunit of the 20S core, located in the class II region of the MHC, and requires proteolytic processing to form a mature subunit.
