Target Information
MST1R (RON) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell proliferation and motility. The protein forms a membrane-spanning, disulfide-linked heterodimer produced by cleavage of a glycosylated precursor into 35-kD (alpha) and 150-kD (beta) subunits. Ligand binding induces tyrosine phosphorylation of the beta chain. Knockout studies show MST1R/RON (-/-) mice fail to survive past the periimplantation period. The MST1R/RON gene maps to 3p21, a region frequently deleted or mutated in small cell lung and renal carcinoma, and is implicated in epithelial cancer progression. Expression of MST1R/RON has been documented in various normal human tissues, including colon, mouth, prostate, and testis, and in cancerous tissues such as colon, prostate, stomach, and uterus.
