Target Information
Neuroglycan C (CSPG5) is a transmembrane chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan expressed exclusively in the central nervous system. Its gene expression is developmentally regulated and can be altered by psychostimulant addiction or nerve injury. The core protein has a unique multidomain structure distinct from other proteoglycans and undergoes post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and glycosylation. Neuroglycan C transitions between proteoglycan and non-proteoglycan forms during cerebellum and retina development, suggesting a role in neuronal circuit formation in the CNS.
