Target Information
H3K27me3 is the epigenetic mark where histone H3 is trimethylated at lysine residue 27. It is an epigenetic silencing mark associated with gene downregulation and heterochromatin regions. H3K27me3 is mainly found at inactive gene promoters and often opposes the activating mark H3K4me3. It is enriched in gene-rich regions linked to developmental regulators.
EZH2 (a PRC2 complex component) acts as the histone methyltransferase (writer) for H3K27me3, while UTX and JMJD3 serve as histone demethylases (erasers). Regulation of H3K27me3 is critical for gene expression control, and its dysregulation has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer.
H3K27me3 antibodies are widely used in Western blot and ChIP assays to study epigenetic modifications and chromatin occupancy.
