Sall4 protein은 인간의 염색체 20에 위치한 Sall4 gene에 의해 암호화되며, Spalt-like protein family에 속합니다.
이 단백질은 체세포 줄기세포 유지에 중요한 역할을 하며, 줄기세포 바이오마커로 연구되고 있습니다.
Sall4는 zinc finger transcription factor로서 Oct4, Sox2와 상호작용하며, Nanog와 복합체를 형성하여 배아줄기세포(ESCs)의 다능성 유지에 기여합니다.
또한 종양 관련 연구에서 oncogene 및 tumor biomarker로서의 기능이 주목받고 있습니다.
