KRT24는 type I (acidic) keratin 계열 단백질을 암호화하며, 이는 intermediate filament (IF) 단백질 초과가족에 속합니다. 케라틴은 actin microfilaments 및 microtubules와 함께 상피세포의 세포골격을 구성하는 구조 단백질입니다. Type I keratin 유전자는 염색체 17q12-q21 영역에 클러스터되어 있습니다.
