Target Information

AQP0 is the most abundant endogenous protein in the plasma membrane of lens fiber cells. It functions as a water pore and is involved in fiber-fiber adhesion, crucial for lens fiber cell structure and organization.
AQP0 has a unique pore constriction responsible for gating, holding only three water molecules spaced too far apart for hydrogen bonding.
The C-terminal domain undergoes extensive post-translational modifications, including truncations during lens aging, which may contribute to cataract formation.
