Target Information
DNA replication, recombination, and repair processes essential for genomic stability require exonucleases. During DNA replication, these enzymes process Okazaki fragments; during DNA repair, they excise damaged DNA and correct recombination mismatches. The DNA polymerase family—including alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon—is involved in these functions. DNA pol delta and epsilon are multisubunit enzymes, with DNA pol delta comprising p125 and p50 subunits. DNA pol gamma is responsible for mitochondrial DNA replication. DNA pol zeta mediates damage-induced mutagenesis, while DNA pol theta functions as a DNA polymerase-helicase in interstrand crosslink repair.
