Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. This core comprises four rings of 28 non-identical subunits—two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant throughout eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
A modified form, the immunoproteasome, processes class I MHC peptides. The PSMB9 gene encodes a 20S core beta subunit in the proteasome B-type family (T1B family) and is located in the class II region of the MHC. Proteolytic processing is required to generate the mature subunit.
