Target Information

SRC2 (steroid receptor coactivator 2), also known as nuclear receptor coactivator 2 (NCOA2 or TIF2), assists in the function of nuclear hormone receptors.
These receptors are conditional transcription factors that regulate cell growth, development, and homeostasis by controlling gene expression.
Members of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily, including steroid and class II receptors, share three domains:

• N-terminal transcriptional activation domain
• Central DNA-binding domain
• C-terminal hormone-binding domain

Prior to hormone binding, steroid receptors remain inactive in complex with heat-shock proteins. Upon hormone binding, conformational changes release the receptor from the inhibitory complex, allowing homodimer binding to DNA enhancer elements and modulation of gene transcription.
Transcriptional coactivator proteins, such as SRC2, are required for full transcriptional activation.
